Please pause the contact now
You may still be able to limit the harm. Do not send anything else, share more information, click another link or let anyone access your device. End the contact.
Urgent steps to take now
- Call your bank or card issuer using the number on the back of your card or a verified number you already use. Ask for the fraud department.
- Call someone from your Trusted Contact List using a number already recorded there—not a number supplied by the caller, email or text.
- If remote access is still active, disconnect the device from the internet or turn it off, then contact your own trusted technical support person.
- Keep messages, receipts, transaction details and screenshots. Do not continue negotiating with the suspected scammer.
- Report the incident to local police and through Canada’s official Report Cybercrime and Fraud service. Call 911 only if someone is in immediate physical danger.
